“PMRExpo – the place to be!” This was how North Rhine‐Westphalia’s State Minister for Internal Affairs, Herbert Reul opened this year’s PMRExpo. His words came to fruition quite impressively: 4,400 visitors and 232 exhibitors, including 87 global companies, attended the leading European trade fair for secure communications over the course of three days from 27 to 29 November at the Cologne Exhibition Grounds. As such, the global expert network for secure communications grew even more in 2018. Users and providers of security‐critical communications systems from Germany, Europe and the rest of the world got together to forge excellent business relationships and hold technical discussions at PMRExpo 2018.
It’s just a matter of days until PMRExpo 2018 opens its doors: from 27 to 29 November 2018, the leading European trade fair for secure communications will welcome exhibitors and visitors from all over the world to the Cologne Exhibition Grounds. Over the course of the three days, well over 200 exhibitors from Germany and across the globe will present their products across an area of 4,800 m². Over 4,000 visitors from Security Authorities and Organisations (BOS), industry, energy, passenger transport, logistics and specialist trade are expected at the Cologne Exhibition Grounds. The 18th PMRExpo will be opened by North Rhine‐Westphalia’s State Minister for Internal Affairs, Herbert Reul.
Digital radio for security authorities and organisations (BOS) is a central topic at PMRExpo in 2018. BOS experts from Germany and abroad will discuss and give lectures on secure communications at the summit and in the Global BOS Forum. The trending topics include the future of the BOS digital radio network, alerting, control centre projects and the use of social media by the emergency services.
A secure, reliable, voice communication and data transmission operation for companies in the energy industry is an indispensable basis for the network. As part of the critical infrastructure, energy suppliers must ensure reliable control and crisis communication. The Secure Communications Summit of the PMRExpo 2018 offers three days of high quality presentations on the topic of secure communications for professional end users. On the third conference day, Thursday, 29 November 2018, the focus is solely on current issues of command and control centres. Moderator is Andreas Sirtl (Branddirektion München).

The PMeV, the body responsible for idea of the PMRExpo, and the organiser EW Medien und Kongresse GmbH will continue their successful collaboration with their international professional trade fair: Uwe Jakob, Managing Director of the PMeV Services GmbH, and Christina Sternitzke, CEO of EW Medien und Kongresse GmbH, have given their signatures to the corresponding contracts, extending the collaboration until 2022.

The 17th PMRExpo taking place in Cologne from 28 to 30 November 2017 is offering an additional opportunity for informed professional exchange on a topical issue. This will be in the form of a workshop on "Linking narrowband (TETRA) networks to broadband networks (Mission Critical LTE)". The workshop will be held in English and will take place on Tuesday 28 November, from 15:00 to 17:00.
As part of the PMRExpo 2017 taking place in Cologne from 28 to 30 November, the Federal Agency for Public Safety Digital Radio (BDBOS) is holding a workshop for all planners and installers of indoor mobile radio systems. The workshop will take place on the first day of the trade fair, Tuesday 28 November, from 14:00 to 16:30. The BDBOS will be providing information on metrology and the notification procedure (notification form). Participants can also discuss any current problems relating to indoor coverage with the representatives of the BDBOS’ indoor coverage division.
